About the project
Gubbrunda is more than a game. It’s an experiment in digital freedom and a bid to reclaim human connection.
The goal: curing “app fatigue”
We’ve all been there. Someone suggests a game at a party or dinner. “Download this app!” they say. But the fun often dies when App Store passwords are forgotten, storage is full, or creating a new account takes too long.
The goal of Gubbrunda is to eliminate all friction:
- No downloads
- No accounts
- No passwords
- Just a link
The old way
The post office (server)
When you send messages in typical apps, everything passes through a central “post office.” It’s safe, but expensive and centralized. If the post office shuts down, everything stops.
Our way
Walkie‑talkie (P2P)
Gubbrunda connects phones directly. No data is saved in the cloud. It’s like a conversation in a room—once it’s said, it only lives in memory. Real privacy.
The challenge: digital walls
When a player on Wi‑Fi tries to talk to a player on 5G, they’re effectively outside each other’s locked doors. The internet is built to keep things out, not let them in.
The solution: a digital guide
We use a STUN server as a guide. It meets the phones outside, points the way, and says: “Run that way now so you can connect!” Once the connection is made, it steps aside.
Under the hood
The project is open source. We believe in an internet owned by its users.
Thanks for helping bring people together in real life
