Secret party missions: four ideas for a dinner party
Secret missions run alongside the conversation rather than stopping dinner for a performance. Each guest knows their own task but not everyone else’s. This standalone plan uses four prompts from the Gubbrunda deck.
Suggested setup: 4–10 adults, one mission each, played over 20–30 minutes. One phone is enough to show instructions privately. The group-photo mission needs a camera; use another task if you do not want photos.
Hand out the missions
- Tell the whole group that optional secret missions will be happening. The secret is who has which task; nobody should unknowingly become a participant.
- Show one card to each guest. With more than four players, repeat tasks but assign different recipients.
- Set a finish point, such as dessert arriving. Nobody needs to interrupt a good conversation just to complete a task.
Four missions to choose from
Give a specific compliment
Compliment the person on your left without mentioning the game. Focus on an action or quality: “You make it easy for everyone to join the conversation.” The mission is complete when the compliment is given, with no particular reaction required.
Ask about a superpower
Ask which superpower someone would choose and let it become a short conversation. “What would you do first?” is one possible follow-up. If the other person wants to change the subject, leave it there.
Suggest a group photo
Arrange a group photo with someone else holding the phone during a natural pause. Ask who wants to be in it and who would like to take it. The task does not require posting or sharing the photo. If people would rather not be photographed, swap the card.
Give a subtle thumbs-up
Give a friendly thumbs-up at the right moment , perhaps after another player’s good answer. Wait until you already have eye contact. One gesture completes the task; repeated signals can become distracting.
Finish with a relaxed reveal
At the agreed finish point, invite guests to reveal their missions. They can let the group guess first if they want. Ask what happened rather than demanding evidence.
For an optional competition, award one point per completed task. A pass or a swap earns no point and no penalty. This is scoring for the guide; an app round uses the normal card and voting rules.
Match the task to the group
For guests meeting for the first time, start with the compliment or superpower question. Save photos for a moment when the group is comfortable. Keep missions within the participating group rather than involving staff or strangers.
For activities everyone can do together, try party games without equipment. Secret cards appear within the app’s mixed deck; this guide is not a separate app mode. Start a round or read the rules.
